Family Camping in the Pinnacles National Park, June 3-5

Camping: We reserved a group camping for 20 people in the Pinnacles campground. Our site is #132. All ages are welcome. Generally, people arrive Friday late afternoon or evening. Arrival on Saturday morning is also a possibility but should be early enough so we can start the hike at a reasonable time. The campground has a swimming pool and shower facilities.

Food: Participants host all meals. Traditionally the quality has beaten all standards of gourmet outdoor cooking! An arrangement about who brings what and any other logistics, will be made through email the week before departure. Hikers bring their own trail snacks & drinks.

Cost: $15/person for the campsite. Food and drink expenses will be divided among the participants. There’s a $15 entrance fee per car or you can use a National Parks pass.

RSVP by May 28 by sending an email to dirk@bcnc.com with the following information:

  • Name of people attending and age of kids

  • Cell phone number

  • Would like to carpool or are looking for a ride

  • Would like to arrive on Friday evening or Saturday morning

Reservations will be on a first come, first serve basis, BCNC members only. For any questions, please email Dirk or call him at (408) 910 7541.

Activities: the park has many hiking opportunities. Highlights of the Park are: ancient volcanos, caves and wildflowers. There’s even a chance you’ll see California condors soar over the park. Some of the the hiking trails go through caves and flashlights are a necessity (great for kids!).

What to bring: tent, mat, sleeping bag, plates, utensils, cups, flashlight, sunscreen, mosquito repellent, bathing suit for the swimmers, and personal items. We will compose a list of necessary camping items. We will ask you to bring a subset of these items (just to make sure we have enough but not too much stuff). The meal responsibilities will be shared among the participants.

Directions:  from the SF Bay Area, take Hwy 101 south to the Hollister Hwy 25 exit just south of Gilroy. Follow the signs through Hollister towards Pinnacles National Park. The campground is near the park’s East entrance. (Note: there is no through road connecting the East and West entrances). Stay on Hwy 25 for approximately 30 miles south of Hollister. Turn right on Hwy 146 (the road goes only one way and there will be a sign for Pinnacles National Monument). You'll see the campground on your left after two miles.
