TAX - Belgian or US address?
It's the first time for me to file the tax in California.
Using Turbotax, they complain about my Belgian address. Since I'm currently under the H1B (non-immigrant visa), I'm not sure if I need to provide the US or Belgian address.
Other question, do I need to file taxes as well in Belgium?
Thanks for sharing your experience,
Caroline

The H1B visa gives you the right to legally reside and work in the US. It also enables you to get a Social Security Card, which is necessary to legally get a job.
I presume that you live in the US and not in Belgium. This would determine your residence, i.e., the US. You do not need to provide your belgian address... except if you were going back to Belgium and then you would need to provide a contact address (that would then be shown on page two and I would recommend including a cover letter as well).
You should have received a W-2 for what you earned in the US. The W-2 would logically show your home address in the US. That is what you should be using on the return.
If you moved to the US during 2010, you would file part time resident for both State and Federal to cover the period you resided in the US.
You would need to follow belgian rules for the period you were a Belgian resident and worked in Belgium.
If you have other questions, pls post your email address
Hope this helps

If you're filing separately (i.e. not jointly with your husband), the easiest is to file taxes in Belgium for the months you worked there. And file taxes separately in the US for the months you worked in the US, using your US address. So keep them completely separate. The IRS doesn't need to know about the income in Belgium, since you paid taxes on it to the Belgian state.
Filing jointly is a different story, I don't know all the details about that, but when I moved here 7 yrs ago, a co-worker of mine had to file jointly (don't remember why), and couldn't avoid double taxation for the year he worked both in Belgium and the US.
Hope that helps,
Nicolas
